They don't want a happy ending for Girls Band Cry
2024-08-03

The recent interview with Jukki Hanada, screenwriter of the popular original anime "Girls Band Cry", has generated a stir on social networks. In it, Hanada revealed her intentions to give the series a depressive ending, moving away from the typical happy endings.

Hanada stresses that he was not interested in a happy ending from the beginning, as the essence of the story is to face and overcome difficulties, even if the solutions are not simple.
- "In the final scene, the girls leave the agency and start over. If they had filled the Budokan and beaten Diamond Dust, it would have become 'Love Live'. From the beginning, I never thought of a happy ending. As I mentioned in episode 10, problems are not easily solved. But we have to move on. That's what I've wanted to show consistently in this story, so I thought about how best to express it, and I came to that ending."
When asked about a potential sequel and what elements he would like to include, Hanada commented:
- "One idea I had was for Nina to be seduced by a super handsome vocalist and follow him home, but in the end, when she is about to be attacked, she knocks him down with a judo technique and runs back. These kinds of stories can't be done in idol anime, so I thought it would be interesting to include it. Also, I'd like to do more episodes about everyday life."
The interview has generated a variety of reactions among fans:
- "Hanada-sensei!?"
- "So shouldn't we do a second season? It looks like all the negative aspects of Hanada-sensei are going to pile up."
- "Hanada-sensei, do you want to make a series of everyday life?"
- "That's very 'Bocchi-chan'."
- "I really want to see something like that. It's good that there are normal children."
- "I want to see Nina being seduced by a handsome boy."
- "There's no way they're going to be popular with kids. The only one that could be popular is Subaru-chan."
- "Episode 8 was the peak. From there, until episode 11, it was a gradual descent with some catharsis that made you think "Can it still get better...?" and then, starting with episode 12."
- "There were too many tense scenes, it was hard to watch."
- "If Nina is stripped of her prickly character, she'll stop being interesting, so an unsuccessful ending to the first season was the only option."
- "Episode 8 was the best, but then those who only write yuri stories came along, and that was the worst. Those who only see a story of admiration and friendship as a yuri don't get it."
- "It sounds interesting. I like how Nina and Tomo seem cold at first, but they're very easy to persuade."
