Uzumaki is torn apart by his bad animation

The anime adaptation of "Uzumaki: Spiral into Horror," Junji Ito's popular horror manga, has suffered a drastic drop in public opinion following the airing of its second episode this weekend. After the first episode received praise for its visual fidelity and chilling atmosphere, fans expected the series to maintain a consistent level of quality throughout the four scheduled episodes. However, the surprise was huge when the second episode turned out to be a great visual disappointment.

During an escape scene, viewers noticed gruesome animation, with the characters moving erratically and unnaturally, something that was immediately reminiscent of the infamous 2016 "Berserk" adaptation. At some points, the characters literally slide over the background, a visual device that fans criticized for its lack of fluidity and quality.

The discontent of the viewers was not long in coming, and criticism of the production began to rain down on social networks and forums. Here are some of the most prominent comments that fans have expressed:

  • "We have to stop giving so much expectation to animes that are co-productions of Adult Swim. Remember what happened with Ninja Kamui."
  • "This is basically a scam at this point. They showed us trailers with amazing animation and even AN AMAZING FIRST EPISODE TO HOOK US AND THEN THE SECOND EPISODE HAPPENED LOL."
  • "HAHAHAHA when they fell to the ground, I had to go for a walk."
  • "The anime is 4 episodes and couldn't they maintain the quality in all of them? What the hell were they doing for 5 years?"
  • "If only people knew how exploited and underpaid anime animators are."
  • "Some people say the production team changed, but that's crazy, change after one episode?"
  • "Can we have a well-animated Junji Ito anime? Only ONE, please."
  • "Cosmic horror ate his budget."
  • "We've waited and waited for years and a delay, for this?"
  • "5 years, 4 episodes. HOW?"
  • "Uzumaki is too weird for most people and this animation looks like A-ha's Take on Me video."
  • "When you forget to budget the entire season and spend it all on episode 1."
  • "Sometimes an anime is so incredibly bad that it ends up being good. I will keep my hope alive."
  • "I guess production must be out of control."
  • "What is this? They're not even running, they're sliding across the screen lol."
  • "They outsourced to a Chinese animation team instead of using in-house animation teams"
  • "I hope next week's episode has a GIANT BOOST in quality because I did NOT wait 5 years and a delay for a garbage episode 2 and more to come."
  • "Uzumaki went down, needs to be studied, like Ninja Kamui again? They had 5 years of production for 4 episodes and completely ruined it."
  • "Episode 1 and 2 were made by different studios."
  • "This is an Adult Swim production, they should have expected this, they don't get big budgets."

Fans had been looking forward to this project for five long years, and after a series of delays, the disappointment is palpable. Although the first episode left a great impression, the second has left a stain that will be difficult to clean up, especially considering that there are only two episodes left to complete the series. Many fear that, with this setback, the end of the adaptation of "Uzumaki" will not meet the high expectations that Junji Ito's work deserves.
