The Terminator anime will premiere this year

Netflix revealed the first details for the upcoming original anime based on the "Terminator" franchise, produced by Skydance Animation in collaboration with Production I.G. This new series will be titled "Terminator Zero" and is scheduled to premiere on August 29 on the platform's global catalog.

The press release also revealed that this series will have a total of eight episodes and that while it's part of the "Terminator" universe, it focuses on entirely new characters. It should be noted that Netflix announced the series in 2021, but it wasn't until now that the first official details were revealed.

The rights holders of the "Terminator" franchise had planned a series of shorts created by prominent European and Japanese "auteurs" in 2008, but the project did not premiere as planned. "Termination" would have focused on Doomsday, the pivotal day in the multiple storylines of the "Terminator" franchise in which the Skynet defense system launches nuclear weapons that would destroy much of humanity. The iconic T-800 robot is a time-traveling Skynet weapon, and has been both the antagonist and protagonist in the various "Terminator" projects since the first 1984 film.

In fact, the T-800 made an official and licensed cameo in the anime series "Doraemon" in June 2009. The anime's main character Doraemon is a time-traveling robot cat from the future, and the "dream showdown" was described in the Japanese press as a confrontation between American and Japanese robots.

Synopsis of Terminator Zero

He arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who is working to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet's impending attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he is pursued by a ruthless assassin from the future who forever alters the fate of his three children.
