Successes continue for The Dangers in My Heart

Asahi Holdings Television, which includes the well-known television station, TV Asahi, has released the explanatory materials of its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 2024. Among the most notable news, the company has indicated that they are working on increasing the number of television spaces dedicated to anime as part of their expansion strategy in new fields.

Successes continue for The Dangers in My Heart

The announcement aligns with the new "2023-2025" management plan unveiled in March last year, in which the company pledged to "challenge new fields of business using content (anime, gaming, metaverse, etc.)." The increase in anime spaces is a concrete step forward in this strategic plan.

Currently, TV Asahi has established anime blocks such as "NUMAnimation" on Saturday nights in Tokyo and "ANIMAZING!!" on Asahi Broadcasting in Osaka. "NUMAnimation" has aired several popular series, including the recent blockbuster 'Blue Lock'. With the plan to increase these spaces, it is expected that there will be a greater number of anime simulcast at night.

As for "NUMAnimation", one of the standout projects is the series 'The Dangers in My Heart (Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu)', based on a manga by Norio Sakurai. The second season of this series aired from January to March, with TV Asahi leading the production committee and production being handled by Shin-Ei Animation, a group company. The first season achieved remarkable success in the international market, recording "the highest record for revenue from abroad for a NUMAnimation anime series".

  • "Do you still intend to produce more season? Or do they prefer to just broadcast the previous ones?"
  • "It would be great if they produced a film now and it was also a tremendous success, is that possible?"
  • "It's amazing that, despite airing during the wee hours of the morning, it's still been so successful."
  • "Probably the only anime worth staying up until the wee hours of the morning for that season."
  • "Unfortunately there were a lot of companies involved in the production, no matter how much money has been made, less and less is done every time it is split."
  • "The only thing left for television is audience ratings as an indicator of success, and there can be no more. It's amazing that an anime is successful on TV nowadays, considering how big streaming services already are."
  • "Recently, late-night anime have been tremendously successful, such as 'Sousou no Frieren' and 'Kimetsu no Yaiba.'"
  • "The only thing left on TV are news shows and anime series."
  • "So until The Dangers in My Heart came along they realized that anime is profitable and now they're interested in making more anime programming blocks, it's certainly an accomplishment."
