The popular Gachiakuta manga will have anime

A press release announced that the manga written and illustrated by Kei Urana, "Gachiakuta," will have an anime adaptation. The statement listed the production details and that the premiere is scheduled for sometime in 2025 in Japan.

The statement also included a message from author Kei Urana:

  • "When I was little, I used to sit in front of the TV and wait impatiently for my favorite cartoons to appear on the screen. One of my future dreams during those chibi days was for my cartoon to become anime, and for my favorite studio, BONES, to work on it. Let's enjoy together in front of the screen of the anime 'Gachiakuta'".

On the other hand, Kei Urana began publishing the manga through Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in February 2022. The author has also written other one-shot works such as "Shikidou" and "Noukase", but "Gachiakuta" is her first serialized work.

Synopsis of Gachiakuta

Rudo and his adoptive father, Legto, live in the slums of a wealthy city and try to live with the rest of the inhabitants, but Rudo despises the profligacy of the upper class. Ignoring the warnings of those around him, Rudo regularly rummages through the city's trash in search of something useful or valuable to salvage from the "Abyss," a gaping hole where everything considered trash, including people, is dumped. Rudo's biological father was one such person, who was thrown into the Abyss after being accused of murder. One day, after coming across a mysterious figure on his way home, Rudo returns to find Legto's dying body on the ground.

The authorities immediately find him at the scene and charge him with murder. No one believes his innocence and he is thrown into the Abyss. However, instead of dying, he finds himself in a strange and smelly place surrounded by monsters made of garbage. When Rudo is attacked by said monsters, he is saved by a man named Enjin, who is revealed to be a "janitor", someone who uses special weapons called "jinkis" to combat these creatures. To get revenge on the one who killed Legto, Rudo reluctantly becomes a janitor to fight his way out of the Abyss.
