Re:ZERO Overtakes Mushoku Tensei as Best isekai

The long-awaited third season of "Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World" has debuted strongly, managing to unseat "Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation" as the highest-rated isekai anime. Even though the Fall-2024 (October-December) season has only just begun, Re:ZERO is already receiving massive praise, surpassing the second part of the second season of "Mushoku Tensei" on the famous MyAnimeList website. Currently, the new season of Re:ZERO boasts a score of 8.96, which places it in first place among anime in this genre.
On the other hand, the second part of the second season of "Mushoku Tensei" has been in second position, with a rating of 8.65, followed by the same series, whose first part of this second season has a score of 8.45, occupying third place in this ranking. This surprise twist in the competition between the two isekai giants has captured the attention of fans and generated a lot of discussion on social networks, especially on Twitter, where the premiere of the third season of Re:ZERO was one of the main trends.

The premiere episode of Re:ZERO was released on October 4, being presented as a 90-minute film, a special format similar to the one that was screened during the Anime Expo 2024 and in special screenings in Japan at the end of August. This third season will be divided into two parts (cours) of eight episodes each. The first part adapts the "Shugeki-hen" (Attack Arc) arc from the original light novels, while the second part, which will be released on February 5, 2025, will address the "Hangeki-hen" (Counterattack Arc).
The Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation series, one of the most popular in the isekai genre since its debut in 2021, has received acclaim for both its story and the development of its protagonist, Rudeus Greyrat, who is reincarnated in a fantasy world after a failed life. Currently, the third season of Mushoku Tensei is in production, and while the series continues to enjoy strong support from its fans, it has been temporarily overtaken by the return of Subaru and company.
Despite this competitiveness, both anime remain mainstays of the isekai genre, with Re:ZERO releasing new episodes every Wednesday in its traditional half-hour format.
