One-Punch Man could have production problems

The wait for the third season of "One-Punch Man" has generated uncertainty among its followers after the recent comments of Chikashi Kubota, character designer of the series. During an event in France, which could have been the Art to Play 2024 festival held from November 16 to 17, Kubota hinted at possible problems in production.

According to social media user DPDM (@/DPDM44), who claims to have spoken with Kubota at the event, the designer was reserved when talking about the status of the new season. Asked directly if production was progressing smoothly, Kubota replied, "I can't say much, but there could be some problems." DPDM later clarified that the details of these problems were not specified, leaving open the possibility that they are minor, severe or persistent.

These comments have generated concern among fans, who already face a complex relationship with the series after the ups and downs in its quality. "One-Punch Man" dazzled the anime world in 2015 with its first season, which combined exceptional animation and a fresh and irreverent narrative, produced by Madhouse and directed by Shingo Natsume. However, the second season, released in 2019 under the production of J.C.STAFF and with changes in the creative team, failed to meet high expectations.
The change of studio and direction significantly affected the visual quality, leading to criticism for the overuse of 3D animation and rushed production. Although some fans enjoyed the second installment, its more lukewarm reception caused the series to lose some of its relevance in the face of new proposals from the anime.
Officially announced in 2022, the third season of "One-Punch Man" has kept its fans on tenterhooks, with scant information about its development and no confirmed premiere date. In February of this year, a short two-minute teaser was released showing the character Garou facing off against various opponents, but since then there has been no substantial news.
Meanwhile, the One-Punch Man universe remains active with the recent release of a video game for PC and mobile devices. However, Kubota's comments have sown new doubts about the future of a series that, at the time, redefined the expectations of the superhero genre in anime.
