Gintama will return with a spin-off in 2025

During the panel for the "Gintama" franchise at the Jump Festa 2025 event, a new promotional video for the anime adaptation of "3-Z Ginpachi Sensei (3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei)," based on the franchise's spin-off novels, was revealed. The video confirms that the release is scheduled for the Fall-2025 period (October-December), but also lists that the "Gintama-an on Theater 2D" compilation films will have a re-release in February-2025 in Japan.
For his part, Tomohito Osaki began the publication of the spin-off novels in 2006 through the Shueisha publishing house, and finished it in December 2024 with a total of four volumes. The concept of the work had already inspired a series of shorts that were shown at the end of several of the main episodes of the adaptation of "Gintama" on television.

Synopsis of Gintama
During the Edo period, Japan is suddenly invaded by alien creatures known as the Amanto. Despite the samurai's attempts to combat the extraterrestrial threat, the Shogun soon realizes that his efforts are futile and decides to surrender. This marks the beginning of an awkward agreement between the Shogunate and the Amanto, which leads to the banning of swords throughout the country and the disappearance of the samurai spirit.
However, there is an eccentric individual who wields a wooden sword and refuses to let his samurai condition die. Now that his kind are no longer needed, Gintoki Sakata works odd jobs around town to make ends meet. Together with his self-proclaimed disciple Shinpachi Shimura, the fearsome alien Kagura and a giant dog named Sadaharu, they run the business known as Yorozuya, often getting involved in all kinds of crazy and hilarious antics.
