It's already April 12 in Japan, which means that the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Miki Yoshikawa, "Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches (Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo)," is celebrating its ninth anniversary. Although it has been nine years since the premiere of this series, the production of a second season has not been announced.

The series was an overall good adaptation of the original manga, covering around 90 chapters in a total of twelve episodes. Needless to say, there was quite a bit of content omitted, for reasons of practicality when it came to translating the story into animation. However, 90 chapters are barely a third of the original work, which ended in February 2017, almost two years after the conclusion of the anime.

It's important to mention that "Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches" is easily one of the most popular romantic comedies in the industry, so many can't explain how come they haven't decided to produce a sequel. One of the most obvious reasons, however, is the fact that the original manga is already finalized. Anime adaptations are usually made to promote sales of the original work, so it wouldn't make sense to continue with the adaptation at this point.

Although recently there have been several cases of manga series that get anime adaptation even after they have finished, it should be noted that these are "first seasons" and not "sequels", as the latter cases have been quite few. In addition, author Miki Yoshikawa has already moved on to her new franchise that achieved even better success, "Kakkou no Iinazuke (A Couple of Cuckoos)," and is also waiting for the announcement of a sequel.

In the end, the anime industry is full of surprises and at any moment we could see the return of "Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches" to television. Nine years of waiting is nothing at this point!
