Violet Evergarden continues to succeed

The film "Violet Evergarden: The Movie" has been recognized at the first Dolby Cinema Japan Awards 2024 in the New Anime category, an award that celebrates technical excellence in the use of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies. This recognition was announced on October 31 during the 37th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival, where the first winners of these awards were revealed, created with the aim of highlighting Japanese productions that use these advanced technologies to contribute to the international development of the content industry in Japan.
- "After the theatrical screening of the standard version, and after an extremely short evaluation period, the decision was made to exhibit it as the first original Japanese anime film to be released in Dolby Cinema format. Preserving the delicacy in the visual details of the work, a new color gradation was made that took full advantage of the characteristics of Dolby Vision, especially in the representation of tones in dark areas. In addition, Dolby Atmos surround sound was used to complete the experience, achieving a production of the highest quality as a new film version. Since then, this film has marked the beginning of a trend in which many other anime films have also adopted the Dolby Cinema format."

To celebrate this achievement, "Violet Evergarden: The Movie" will have a new round of special screenings at ten Dolby Cinema theaters in Japan, beginning on November 15. This rebroadcast will allow fans to enjoy the film again with unmatched visual and sound quality, taking full advantage of Dolby technologies.
Originally released in Japan in September 2020, "Violet Evergarden: The Movie" was a box office success, reaching the top positions in its opening weekend. In November of the same year, the film began screening in seven Dolby Cinema theaters, becoming the first original Japanese anime feature film to be screened in this format — previously reserved for compilation films.
Other special awards at the Dolby Cinema Japan Awards were given to Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" and the live-action film "Godzilla Minus One," while "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" received the Dolby Cinema 3D Special Award. These accolades reinforce Dolby's commitment to technological innovation in film, celebrating those who explore new ways of telling stories with high-end audiovisual tools.
The combination of an emotional narrative and outstanding technical quality has cemented "Violet Evergarden: The Movie" as a cinematic experience of reference. The rebroadcast on Dolby Cinema will provide a unique opportunity for those who could not see it in its initial release, or for those who wish to relive this moving story in its maximum audiovisual expression.
