They already want to cancel the anime of the loli wife
2024-06-21

This morning, the first promotional video for the anime adaptation of "If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student (Tsuma, Shougakusei ni Naru)" was finally revealed. Although the story could be controversial for its theme and appearance, the synopsis is completely the opposite:
- Keisuke Niijima lost his beloved wife, Takae, 10 years ago. Since then, he does not feel alive and is seen as a gloomy man. Keisuke's only family left is his only daughter, Mai. Keisuke wants Mai to be happy, but he hasn't done anything for his daughter, other than support her. Father-daughter time stopped 10 years ago. They live in the same house but lead very separate lives and do not communicate well. One day, an elementary school girl appears in front of Niijima's house and claims that she is the reincarnation of Takae.
The story is completely charming and there is nothing "perverted" about it. Unfortunately, however, when the news broke in the Western media, netizens were quick to jump to conclusions and immediately criticize the project:
- "This is why it's so hard for new people to start watching anime."
- "yes, the judge is not going to believe that your wife transformed into a girl, brother, you're going to go to federal prison."
- "I swear anime gets weirder and weirder with each new season."
- "What the fuck am I looking at?"
- "The Japanese never win over accusations."
- "And that's how we gatekeep properly, October is going to be a crazy month."
- "If tourists had their way, all the entertainment in Japan would be typical Marvel/Lucas Films slop."
- "I understand why people are scared. Honestly, it's not that bad. It's a pretty healthy manga. Personally I don't find it interesting, but from what I've read about it. It's healthy."
- "I don't think I read the title well. I really need to improve my English. Because it is impossible for something like this to come to market."
- "I'm generally not interested in loli anime, but I like the plot of the wife/mother being reborn as an annoying brat so I'll watch it."
- "I forgot they were doing this, it looks pretty good, but I don't know how I feel about the character designs."
- "A lot of pedophile scheme. Kudos to the Japanese for never trying to avoid criticism."
- "With all these comments talking about the title of this program... what would be a good substitute title for it? Sincere question."
- "Ok... I like cute things, but this is... as this is rare... As a super fucking weird I understand that there's a difference in Japan and America, but um I feel like this is just a little weird definitely not on my list of expected anime."
- "An anime dedicated to certified pedophiles."
- "Who the hell thinks about these things?" If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student, what kind of title is that?"
- "Mao Zedong's biggest mistake as commander was not to invade and occupy at least half of Japan when the Soviets came in."
- "For people who are not going to watch the series for the title. it is very misleading. Very good manga about loss, nothing suspicious, depressingly good material."
- "I've read the manga. It's a very bittersweet story. Basically, the uncle's wife dies and she is reincarnated but with her memory intact. The story focuses on how his family deals with their grief and how they both move on with their lives. since the wife has her own family as well."
- "I was stunned by the title when it was announced months ago, but instead of wishing Japan would be bombed again and calling it all pedophilia like 'normal people', I did my research and realized that it's actually a good story and there's nothing weird about it."
- "Reminder to the West: You are not the target audience. Getting angry about something made for the public in another country is like going to a restaurant and trying to return someone else's order to the chef because you don't like what they ordered."
- "I have a feeling that this is going towards comedy but it all depends on how they approach it. In itself, this starts from reincarnation and the fact of preserving their memories of past life, so let's see what they do with those cards."
- "People really need not to be reactionary and immediately outraged by these things, especially when you're wrong in your assumptions. I've read the first volume and it's pretty good and sincere. For now, I recommend it."
- "I understand that it's supposed to be a story about helping a family grieve over the dead mother. But it is so obvious what the author intended with the premise that the mother would return to being a little girl. And you know how this idea is going to deal with the dark side of the internet."
- "Honestly, I would like more anime or series in general that address issues of reincarnation, noisekai-type reincarnation."
- "Ok, from what I've heard the actual content is completely tame, it just has a really alarming title." If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student" was definitely not the best choice."
- "People coming in screaming about lolis when they don't even know the tragedy that is his wife reincarnating as an elementary school student and her remembering."
- "It lures you in thinking it's a bad thing, but then it hits you with very deep thoughts, existential crises, and the reminder that loss is inevitable."
- "I think this sums up the content of the anime. Many of these shows seem to be based on a trick and then use it for as many episodes. Some people may like it and that's valid, but it's not for me."
- "Seriously, aren't there other works that deserve to be animated that are better than this one?"
- "Is there a way we can cancel the show and not spend money on this shit and put it into an anime worth watching or what?"
- "This thread is like a free block list. As this is probably the healthiest manga ever (and also incredibly sad) however, people Twitter judging it by the title. It's honestly a great filter, but you really shouldn't have to filter... In any case, I'm glad it's being made into an anime!"
