The My Hero Academia movie is a success

A press release reported that "My Hero Academia: You're Next," the fourth original film in the "My Hero Academia" franchise, sold 608,500 tickets and totaled approximately 895 million yen in its first three days in theaters in Japan, taking the top spot in the earnings charts.

This isn't entirely surprising for a "My Hero Academia" movie, especially since the film was released a few days before the release of the final chapter of the original manga. In addition, the franchise's cinematic universe carries a different timeline than the original, so it's an opportunity for fans to enjoy a surprise narrative from the author.

For this film, the manga's original creator, Kohei Horikoshi, served as general supervisor and original character designer. The film features an original story that takes place around the same time that the television anime is currently being set, with the collapse of the safe society. In the film, a mysterious giant fortress and a man who resembles the ancient "Symbol of Peace" suddenly appear in a society that has collapsed due to war.

For his part, Horikoshi began publishing the manga "My Hero Academia" in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 2014 and finished it in August 2024. The anime adaptation produced by BONES studios has been ongoing since April 2016, inspiring a total of six seasons to date and a seventh currently on air.

A society devastated by battles between heroes and enemies (villains), and infested with Datsugoku, people who have escaped from the incarceration facilities of enemies.
