The health of the author of HUNTER x HUNTER worsens

On September 3, Yoshihiro Togashi, author of 'HUNTER x HUNTER', shared on his official Twitter account a worrying update on his state of health. Despite successfully delivering the new color manuscript of his popular manga, Togashi confessed that his back pain has worsened considerably during the process. The mangaka expressed his gratitude to his followers for the support received, but also acknowledged that his physical condition has deteriorated.
"Thanks to everyone, I was able to deliver the color manuscript to the editor. I received warm messages of encouragement, words of concern, and felt their support. Thanks a lot. However, my back pain has definitely worsened," the author wrote.

This update comes a day after Togashi posted a message comparing his frail back to a Jenga game on the verge of collapse. "I feel like the bones around my spine are a game of Jenga about to collapse, I've restarted the coloring. Will I finish coloring first, or will my back give up? Wait for my post tomorrow. (Upper back pain)," he mentioned in his post on September 2.

On August 31, Togashi had reported significant improvement after receiving treatment, but explained that the back pain was due to the posture he adopted when working on the color illustrations, different from the one he used for black and white manuscripts. It was only after someone pointed out this difference to him that the author realized the impact it had on his health.
The long-awaited continuation of 'HUNTER x HUNTER' will return to the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in the October 7, 2024 edition. This will be the first new chapter in almost two years, since the manga went on hiatus following the publication of chapter 400 in December 2022. Following the publication of that chapter, Shueisha decided that the series will no longer follow a strict weekly serialization format, with the goal of adapting to Togashi's health needs.
Previously, Togashi had revealed the possible endings of 'HUNTER x HUNTER' on the TV variety show Asahi, Iwakura and Yoshizumi, in case he was unable to complete the manga before his passing. The author shared three different endings for the series, dubbed A, B, and C, each with different levels of satisfaction for fans.
