The best harem anime according to the West

The r/anime community, one of the largest and most active on the Reddit platform, recently conducted a survey to select the best anime in the harem genre, a subgenre that has been a mainstay in the anime industry for decades. With a total of 1,129 users participating, the survey not only highlighted the popularity of these types of stories, but also the diversity of opinions and the wide range of titles that fans consider representative of the genre.

The survey allowed participants to select up to 10 anime that they considered worthy of being among the best in the harem genre. To give greater weight to user preferences, a scoring system was implemented in which first place received 3 points, second and third places obtained 2 points, while the other teams received 1 point each.

This method of voting allowed the community to more accurately reflect which anime are most appreciated within the genre and which ones manage to stand out, not only for their overall popularity, but also for meeting the key elements that define a harem.

One of the most interesting aspects of this survey was the debate it generated about what really counts as a harem anime. Although the basic structure of the subgenre involves a character, usually male, surrounded by several love interests vying for his attention, interpretations vary widely among fans. Some consider the key to be romantic balance, while others look to harem anime for comedic exploration or quirky situations that push characters to interact in unique ways.

In the r/anime poll, users not only chose their favorite titles, but also shared their opinions on what elements make a harem memorable.
