Sousou no Frieren celebrates a year at the top of MyAnimeList

The anime "Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End)" has reached a historic milestone by completing a year as number one in the MyAnimeList anime ranking. With an impressive score of 9.32 based on nearly a million reviews, the series has vastly outperformed other great titles such as "One Piece Fan Letter" (9.13), "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" (9.09) and "Steins; Gate" (9.07). This achievement broke the long dominance that Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood had maintained in the rankings for years.

The anime, based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, captivated the audience with its melancholic and thoughtful approach to life after a great adventure. The series has been acclaimed for its high-quality animation, courtesy of Madhouse, and its ability to convey deep emotions while exploring the themes of loss, memory, and the ephemerality of time.
Sousou no Frieren's popularity shows no signs of abating, and its cultural impact continues to grow. With a second season already in production, expectations are high. According to readers of the manga, future adaptations promise even more exciting and emotional arcs, which could further cement its position as one of the best anime of all time.
But of course, the comments are varied about it:
- "That ranking is nonsense."
- "Although I love FMAB, Frieren is also absolutely fantastic, so I think he deserves it. Time will tell if the next seasons maintain the same level of quality."
- "I can't believe the difference in score with FMAB."
- "Frieren will definitely remain at the top, at least for a couple of years. Personally, I feel like she's not ready to be number one yet. Although, as a reader of the manga, I know that future arcs are 10 times better than what we've seen in the anime. If they keep consistency, then yes, there's definitely an argument for Frieren to be the number one all-time."
- "The only thing I think about the main anime on MyAnimeList is that Steins; Gate deserves to be number one. Other than that, I don't really care. My favorite anime are barely in the top 100, although I've already seen most of them."
- "I don't think anyone really believes it's the best anime right now. It just doesn't bother anyone who is at the top of MAL. Anime has no haters or toxic fandom. Everyone agrees he's good, but I doubt anyone believes he's the greatest of all time."
- "At the moment, he doesn't deserve to be near the top, but I definitely see that he can improve a lot with the next few seasons. Season 1 was good, but there's still a lot of untapped potential, especially with the character arcs."
- "Anyone who cares enough about anime rankings as to bother why it's where it is, is interacting with art in a completely superficial and meaningless way."
- "It will be very difficult to dethrone Frieren, as it's the first time I've felt like an anime has the potential to dethrone Avatar: The Last Airbender as my favorite animation."
