Shingeki no Kyojin: The Gothic Mikasa drives fans crazy

Although both the manga and anime of "Shingeki no Kyojin" already came to an end some time ago, the franchise continues to give surprises to its followers. In commemoration of the fifteenth anniversary of the debut of Hajime Isayama's manga, a new compilation film titled "Shingeki no Kyojin: The Last Attack" has been released, which is being screened in theaters in Japan and some other countries. This film compiles the events of the last special episodes of the series and, to the delight of fans, includes an unpublished post-credits scene that has given a lot to talk about: the time has finally come to see Mikasa Ackerman in her gothic version.
The new film, "Shingeki no Kyojin: The Last Attack", edits and presents in cinematic format the final two specials of the anime, closing the story in a definitive way. However, what has captured viewers' attention is the post-credits scene, in which the characters appear in "everyday" versions of themselves, inspired by the promos for "Attack on School Castes," a series of illustrations in which Isayama imagined what the characters would be like in a modern world.
This reinterpretation of the characters includes Mikasa in a gothic style, a design that quickly became iconic among fans since it was introduced as a "what-if" in the manga's promotional material. Finally, this alternative aesthetic has been incorporated into the anime, thus fulfilling the desire of many fans who wanted to see this version of Mikasa in action.
What happens in the new post-credits scene?
In this post-credits scene, the characters not only show off their redesigns of Attack on School Castes, but also imagine a happy ending for all of them. The characters appear as spectators, watching the same film that the audience has just witnessed, as if they are enjoying an ordinary and peaceful life after the harsh events of the series. While Eren and Armin's redesigns feel somewhat simple and casual, Mikasa stands out with her gothic look, a look that has been an object of admiration since it was revealed in the promos.
This alternate Mikasa design has become a fan favorite, and now with this new scene in The Last Attack, it has become a reality in the animated version, giving a special touch to the conclusion of the franchise. Interestingly, this design also had a small nod in the manga, when it is shown as one of the many possibilities that Eren envisions using the powers of the Founding Titan during the climax of the story.

Why is the Gothic version of Mikasa so special?
Attack on School Castes was a series of playful illustrations that depicted the characters of "Shingeki no Kyojin" in a contemporary context, and Mikasa's gothic version quickly became a fan favorite. This visual transformation appealed not only because of its unique aesthetic, but also because it seemed to highlight a darker and more enigmatic side of the character. Hajime Isayama recognized the popularity of this redesign, and it was at his request that this look was included as an "easter-egg" in the anime, reaffirming the creator's affection for this Mikasa reinterpretation.
Now, with the inclusion of the Gothic Mikasa in the film "Shingeki no Kyojin: The Last Attack," fans have the opportunity to see their beloved Mikasa in an alternate version, in a setting where the characters can live in peace and happiness. This alternate ending not only brings a more hopeful closure to the series, but also grants a special moment to the fans who have accompanied the franchise during all these years, seeing how the characters reach a kinder destiny.
