Otakus Already Have the Worst Anime of the Season

Every season some anime premieres so low-budget that it goes viral because fans are quick to make fun of it with each new episode, and Spring-2024 (April-June) has been no exception. The anime adaptation of the light novels "The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases" has taken commentary forums in Japan by storm, as the quality of the drawing and animation has been totally pathetic.

The saddest thing is that it is a production of Studio Deen in collaboration with Marvy Jack Studios, a cursed duo that previously led the franchise of "Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins)" to media and financial failure. One can't help but wonder how Marvy Jack, a third-rate studio that has proven on more than one occasion to be a failure, is still considered an option for production committees.

If you're interested in this abomination, the synopsis writes:

• Considered a "good-for-nothing" due to his low status and lack of a Divine Gift, Allen is stripped of his noble status and banished from the Duchy of Westfeldt. But Allen has a secret: he was a great hero in a previous life, and he's thrilled at the chance to finally live as he pleases! However, his drama-free existence is soon interrupted by a desperate encounter with his ex-fiancée. As a former hero who still possesses the incredible powers of his past life, Allen can't ignore someone in need, no matter how much he likes it! And so begins the new heroic saga that our former hero never wanted!

And there was no shortage of comments:

• "You should never trust critics' scores."
• "Voice actor Shouta Aoi is a failure when he's cast as a grown man. It's a sunken show from the first episode."
• "This is the result of mass-producing a bunch of anime series."
• "The truth is that it has been terrible. Especially the voice actor of the male lead."
• "Is there any anime that doesn't suck in a good way, like the instant death cheat?"
• "It's funny that it's the same team as Nanatsu no Taizai, the failure was coming from afar."
• "It's a shame that the low budget is quite remarkable, the original story was pretty good."
• "The original work was already pretty pathetic, so there wasn't much to do with the anime."
• "The designs dropped from the first episode, which I think is terrible. Even when animation isn't everything, something like that is too remarkable."
• "There are a lot of blatant copies to other franchises, isn't the author embarrassed to say he wrote this?"
• "A failure is a failure even in the world of animation."
• "Safe animation works are usually forgotten as soon as they are finished. However, anime adaptations that are so bad that stories are made are talked about for years."
