Oshi no Ko: Kana's fans go crazy

This article includes spoilers for the "Oshi no Ko" manga. Discretion is advised to the reader.
The most recent chapter of the popular manga "Oshi no Ko" has unleashed a storm of negative reactions on Japanese social networks due to Kana Arima's controversial reaction to the death of the protagonist, Aqua Hoshino. The events described in the episode have been described as shocking and inappropriate by many followers, who argue that the scene is extreme and out of place.
Aqua Hoshino, who drowned after a confrontation with his father, is found lifeless, and during his funeral, Kana, who was in love with him, stars in an altercation in which, enraged and devastated, she hits the corpse of the young man inside the coffin, generating scenes of high drama and emotional violence that many readers did not approve of.
Below are the points of the episode that caused the most annoyance among fans:
- Aqua is stabbed, falls into the sea and dies.
- Kana attends the funeral wearing a hat, reflecting her apparent disconnection or discomfort with the situation.
- In the midst of her grief and anger, Kana screams "Why did you have to die?!" as she punches Aqua's corpse, causing the flowers inside the coffin to spill.
- Aqua's adoptive mother, Miyako Saitou, physically reprimands Kana for her behavior, but she still continues to beat the deceased's body.
These scenes sparked outrage on social media, especially because of the graphics of Kana's grief and the lack of explanation about the actions of the characters. Many users criticized that the plot, instead of logically resolving emotional conflicts, opted for a chaotic and confrontational approach. In addition, criticism extended to how Aqua's relatives discovered her death through a news story on television (instead of being notified by the authorities), which was seen as a weak and insensitive narrative device.
- "What is this manga?"
- "Poor Yokoyari Mengo".
- "The comments and Twitter are on fire, and it makes me laugh."
- "I think it's impressive how they've managed to portray Kana Arima as a hateful girl until the very end."
- "Readers didn't want to see Kana Arima in this despair at the end."
- "Aqua ended up floating in the sea for a month, how absurd."
- "Hitting the corpse at the funeral, and it's not even related, just to solve a plot... too extreme."
- "If you hit a drowned corpse, the face would be shattered."
- "Aqua, that wretch, died satisfied, but he left everyone in misery."
- "I already noticed it with Kaguya-sama, but it's terrible how they try to close a long story."
- "The relatives found out about his death on television, what's the point of that?"
- "The comments are hell, and it makes me laugh."
- "Sad news: Kana Arima confirmed as a spinster for life. What are we going to do with this?"
- "That they end up making Kana Arima suffer is not what readers wanted."
- "What kind of scene is that where everyone is watching TV like nothing, without Aqua?"
- "Even without Aqua, why is everyone watching TV so quietly together?"
- "If Miyako-san didn't know, who identified the drowned corpse?"
- "What a pity, the artist who drew Aqua and Kana fanart for four years is desperate."
- "So there were fans of Aqua x Kana, they should have woken up from fantasy earlier. From the middle, he was just a clown."
- "Another one like Jujutsu Kaisen, apparently."
- "If the body was clean → it would be discovered in the autopsy that the wounds were self-inflicted. If it was deteriorated, → a DNA analysis would have to be done. But the family finds out on the news (and somehow it is already identified). How did they resolve this contradiction?"
- "I don't understand why you risk your life, it's surprising how difficult it is to follow the plot."
- "I wonder what the fans who aren't commenting think, because online it's on fire everywhere. If it gets really bad, like Prison School, sales of the volumes can also fall."
- "It looks like Elfen Lied."
- "Will it be like School Days?"
