Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete's Success Continues

There is no doubt that "Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete (Gushing over Magical Girls)" was one of the standout series of the Winter-2024 season (January-March). After the premiere of the first episode, the series became the most discussed on social networks because several of its scenes bordered on ecchi and hentai.
The story centers on Utena Hiiragi, a high school girl who is a big fan of the magical girl organization Three Magic, which fights against the evil organization Enormeeta. One day, Enormeeta's mascot, Venalita, recruits her. Uninterested in associating with the forces of evil, she tries to leave when a group of magical girls appear and declare war on them. A battle ensues and Hiiragi soon discovers that he enjoys inflicting pain on others as his true nature begins to emerge.
As it turns out, even though the series has ended, Blu-ray/DVD bundles are still being released. While these numbers don't represent much within the industry anymore thanks to the proliferation of streaming services, they're still considered direct revenue for animation studios. The first package of "Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete" stood out for having surpassed the other premieres of the season with 8,114 copies sold, a spectacular figure by today's standards.
This pace was definitely maintained for the second Blu-ray/DVD package, which totaled 9,181 copies sold in its first week, a record figure for the Winter-2024 season releases. If we compare, we can see the following numbers: "Dungeon Meshi Vol. 1" – 2,766 copies, "16bit Sensation: ANOTHER LAYER Vol. 5" – 684 copies, and "Blue Exorcist Season 3 Vol. 1" – 165 copies.

Sadly, Blu-ray/DVD sales are no longer an indicator of whether a series will get a second season or not, so fans of "Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete" will have to wait for future updates.
