Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete confirms second season

During a special event, the production of a second season for the anime adaptation of the manga "Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete (Gushing over Magical Girls)" was officially confirmed. The release included a special promotional video, but does not reveal production details or a scheduled release date.

For his part, Akihiro Ononaka began publishing manga through Takeshobo's Manga Life STORIA magazine in January 2019, where he is currently suspended. The first season had a total of thirteen episodes and was produced by Asahi Production studios, being broadcast during the Winter-2024 period (January-March).

Production Equipment

Tadato Suzuki (Accel World, Little Busters!, Medaka Box) and Atsushi Otsuki (BanG Dream!, Kanokon, Ladies versus Butlers!) directed the first season at Asahi Production studios.
Noboru Kimura (Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou desu yo?, Amagami SS, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san) was in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
Fuyuka Ootaki (Otonari ni Ginga) was in charge of character design and animation direction.
Yasuharu Takanashi (Naruto: Shippuuden, Fairy Tail, Log Horizon), Akinari Suzuki (Ars no Kyojuu, Bakugan: Geogan Rising) and Johannes Nilsson (Isekai Nonbiri Nouka, Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi, Kyochuu Rettou) were in charge of composing the soundtrack.

Synopsis of Gushing Over Magical Girls

Hiiragi Utena has always admired magical girls and has fantasized about becoming a genius heroine who fights evil. So when a doll-like figure approaches her one night, claiming that she has a latent magical power inside, she trembles with excitement. But her colorful dream is quickly cut short in an ironic turn of events when she transforms into a villain.

Uninterested in associating with the forces of evil, she tries to leave when a group of magical girls appear and declare war on her. A battle ensues, and Hiiragi soon discovers that she enjoys inflicting pain on others as her true nature begins to emerge. "Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete" follows Hiiragi in her new life as the leader of the villains, fighting the magical girls and unleashing her new sadistic nature.
