Madhouse will animate The Dinner Table Detective
A press release listed that the novels written by Tokuya Higashigawa, "The Dinner Table Detective (Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de)", will have an anime adaptation that will be released during the Spring-2025 period (April-June). The statement listed the production details and voice cast of the project.
The story debuted in 2007, while publisher Shogakukan published a total of three novels in 2010, 2011, and 2012. A "Best Version" was released in 2019, followed by "Shin Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de" in March-2021 and September-2024, featuring illustrations by Yusuke Nakamura.

Production Equipment
- Mitsuyuki Masuhara (Death Note, Highschool of the Dead, Chobits) is in charge of directing the anime at Madhouse Studios.
- Mariko Kunisawa (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, Zero no Tsukaima: Princesses no Rondo, Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- Izumi Kawada is in charge of character design and animation direction for the first time.
- Takeshi Hama (Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, Devil May Cry, Tejina-senpai) is in charge of composing the soundtrack.
Synopsis of The Dinner Table Detective
Set in the city of Kunitachi, Tokyo. Reiko Houshou, a rookie detective with the Kunitachi Police Department, is also the heiress of the world-renowned "Houshou Group". He faces difficult cases alongside Inspector Kazamatsuri, heir to the family business "Kazamatsuri Motors", and Kageyama, his sharp-tongued butler and chauffeur.
With scathing comments like, "Are your eyes merely decorative, milady?" Kageyama not only criticizes Reiko's lack of deductive ability, but also brilliantly solves the mysteries posed to him. A sharp-tongued butler joins classic detective fiction in this one-of-a-kind mystery series.
