Kaiju Anime No. 8 Confirms Sequel

Following the airing of today's final episode, the production of a new sequel for the anime adaptation of the manga "Kaiju No. 8" was announced. The statement did not reveal what this sequel is about, but a previous leak already assured that it is a second season.

Although a scheduled release date was not revealed, it is possible that during the Anime Expo 2024 event, to be held next week in the United States, more information about it will be revealed. On the other hand, it was also revealed that Kouki Uchiyama will play Gen Narumi, the enigmatic and unstoppable captain of the First Division.

The actor commented on it:

"This is Kouki Uchiyama, the voice of Gen Narumi. After reading the original story, I found Gen Narumi to be a very interesting character with many different traits, so I kept that in mind during filming. The episode was very intense, and the recording studio was full of emotion. I felt that the recording was going well in this great environment. I hope you continue to enjoy both the original manga "Kaiju No. 8" and the anime."

The first season of the anime aired during Spring-2024 (April-June) and had a total of twelve episodes. On the other hand, Naoya Matsumoto began publishing the manga through Shueisha's Shueisha publishing house Shonen Jump Plus service in July 2020. Previously the author wrote other works such as "Pochi Kuro", "Metallica Metalluca", "Neko Wappa!", among others.

Shigeyuki Miya (Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou, Blood Lad) and Tomomi Kamiya (Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuukoku no Moriarty, Carole & Tuesday) are directing the anime at Production I.G. Studios.
Ichirou Ookouchi (Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch, DEVILMAN crybaby, Guilty Crown, SK8 The Infinity) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Vampire in the Garden, Innocence) is in charge of character design and animation direction.
Mahiro Maeda (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rebuild of Evangelion, SSSS. GRIDMAN) is in charge of monster design at Studio Khara.

Synopsis of Kaiju No. 8

Grotesque Godzilla-like monsters called "kaijuu" have been popping up in Japan for many years. To combat these beasts, an elite military unit known as the Defense Corps risks their lives daily to protect civilians. Once a creature dies, the "sweepers," who work under the Kaijuu Professional Cleaning Corporation, stay behind to dispose of its remains. Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old man, is not satisfied with his job as a street sweeper. From a young age, he has aspired to join the Defense Corps and kill kaijuus for a living.

However, after a few failed attempts, he abandoned his dreams and resigned himself to the mediocrity that provided him with a decent salary. However, when an ambitious 18-year-old recruit named Leno Ichikawa joins his cleaning team, Kafka is reminded once again of his desire to join the military. After a chain of unfortunate events and an interaction with the young street sweeper, Kafka encounters a parasite-type kaijuu that makes its way through his mouth, turning him into a humanoid monster. With his newfound powers, Kafka aims to make one last attempt at his lifelong dream.
