Genshin Impact says goodbye to Twitter

On November 12, the official "Genshin Impact" Twitter account announced a major change in its communication policy. Starting with Version 5.2 of the game, announcements about future events and their detailed descriptions will only be published on the official Genshin Impact channel on HoYoLAB, miHoYo's official forum for its titles. This change was communicated as part of a response in a thread related to the Ver. 5.2 update, also indicating that event announcements on Twitter will no longer be made after this release.

Although no clear explanations have been given about the reasons behind this change, it is clear that the constant transformations at Twitter since its acquisition by Elon Musk have influenced the decision. The platform has become less predictable for businesses, which comes with risks as they continually try to adapt to modifications. Genshin Impact is not the only title that has chosen to disassociate itself from Twitter: last year, several Yostar games, such as Blue Archive, also stopped using the platform for their ads, migrating to their own systems.

This move seems to be part of a growing trend among large game developers towards greater independence through the use of internal platforms. However, some users have expressed their displeasure with this decision, arguing that HoYoLAB does not offer the same accessibility or ease of use as Twitter. The following comments stood out:

  • "Finally, companies are also taking action against AI."
  • "This is just uncomfortable."
  • "If the new characters are also announced only in HoYoLAB, the hype is going to wane a lot."
  • "They left Twitter, what a laugh."
  • "HoYoLAB is difficult to use, complicated to navigate, and above all, it's full of posts from kids who seem to live on TikTok. I don't want to see that, so this migration is painful."
  • "We'll see how this ends."
  • "I didn't realize it at all... Does it mean they're pulling out of Twitter?"
  • "Some are saying this is censorship, but how can you upload birthday images or advertisements to a place that openly says it will use the images to train the AI? Leaving Twitter is a totally reasonable decision."
  • "With all the modifications on Twitter, this information tool is slowly dying."
  • "This movement will only accelerate."
