Fans of Yu-Gi-Oh! They smell really bad, they say

A Twitter post recently went viral after a "Yu-Gi-Oh!" player reported that a female player left the tournament facility before the event was over, and that he was concerned about it. The user said he was concerned that the woman had been bullied by the most adept players of the popular card game that often appear in these types of tournaments.
While the post went viral and mostly received a variety of positive comments from the community at large, one woman who believes she could be the one mentioned in the post broke the silence and hinted at a completely different reality. The woman on Twitter decided to clarify the matter and revealed that she didn't leave the facility because the players were being cruel to her, but simply because the place stinked horribly.
- "I saw this because it was trending, but considering the circumstances, I think they refer to me. I left in the middle of the event because I couldn't stand the smell Not that I lost or felt sad," she wrote on Twitter.

Personal hygiene has been a big issue for decades, especially at conventions and especially at video game and card game tournaments. The situation has become so dire in some "Super Smash Bros." tournaments that competitors can be disqualified for excessive body odor and dirt.
The incident at the "Yu-Gi-Oh!" tournament in Japan has highlighted an underlying concern in the gaming community: the lack of attention to personal hygiene. While it's true that most participants in these events care about improving their in-game skills, it's equally important to remember that the comfort and well-being of everyone present is also critical.
The otaku and player culture of "Yu-Gi-Oh!" is often associated with extreme dedication to anime, video games, and card games, but this doesn't justify neglecting hygiene. A lack of awareness about this issue can contribute to creating an uncomfortable and even hostile environment for some participants. It is crucial that event organisers and the players themselves actively promote proper hygiene practices to ensure a more positive experience for everyone involved.
And of course, there was no shortage of comments:
- "That smell hit her like Exodia."
- "The need to kick these people out to stop feeding the stereotype."
- "Card game players and their history of poor hygiene. Why is this still happening in 2024?"
- "I'm glad to see that the white knight has been silenced in this way."
- "If I'm not mistaken, some events have had these issues so often that rules have been created that require hygiene or players will be disqualified."
- "Every tournament I went to, I was always dressed like it was a casual date and with a nice cologne because you never know who you might bump into."
- "I'm asking you otaku, please bathe regularly and use deodorant."
- "It's time for Ba-Ba-Ba-Bathe."
- "That partly explains why I haven't been to tournaments in a while. I always bathe and use deodorant."
- "That's why tournaments need to implement a personal hygiene rule."
- "As someone who's been to one of those Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments, she doesn't make mistakes. None of them have known what most of us know as deodorant."
