Dandadan is already the most watched anime on Netflix

The anime adaptation of "Dandadan" has achieved an impressive debut on Netflix, placing itself among the top 10 most-watched shows on the platform during the week of October 7 to 13, 2024. The action series with tinges of science fiction and supernatural elements reached second place in the global ranking of non-English-language series, accumulating 4.3 million views. Despite failing to take the top spot, which was taken by the Italian miniseries Deceitful Love with 9.6 million views, the success of "Dandadan" is remarkable, especially since it managed to surpass 2024's Ranma 1/2 reboot, which reached fifth place with 2.5 million views.

The performance of "Dandadan" in its first week is even more remarkable given the level of expectation that existed around the reboot of "Ranma 1/2", a classic work by the legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi and animated by the prestigious MAPPA studio. Despite the strong competition, Dandadan not only managed to stand out on Netflix, but has also positioned itself as one of the most watched series on Crunchyroll and Hulu, where it is also available.

Dandadan has captured the attention of not only international viewers, but also Japanese audiences. On Niconico, one of the top streaming sites in Japan, Dandadan placed first in the ranking of the most popular anime of Fall-2024. In second place is the romantic drama "Blue Box," followed by the second season of "The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors" in third place

Critics have also received the Dandandan adaptation very positively, calling it one of the best anime releases of 2024. Written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu, the story follows protagonists Momo Ayase and Ken "Okarun" Takakura, who attempt to disprove their obsessions with aliens and the supernatural, only to discover that both dimensions are real. The manga, which has been a hit in the pages of the Weekly Shonen Jump, finally hit the screen under the direction of renowned animation studio Science Saru, responsible for acclaimed productions such as Devilman Crybaby and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
