Black Butler anime will have a fifth season

During the Anime Expo 2024 event, it was announced that the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Yana Toboso, "Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji)", will have a fifth season titled "Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc" that will premiere in 2025 in Japan. According to the statement, production continues in the hands of CloverWorks studios.

On the other hand, Toboso began publishing the manga in Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine in September 2006. So far, a total of four anime seasons have been produced totaling 57 episodes, and they have premiered in October-2008, July-2010, July-2014 and April-2024. The latter changed animation studios, moving from A-1 Pictures to CloverWorks.

Production Equipment

Kenjiro Okada (3-gatsu no Lion, Josee to Tora to Sakanatachi, Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden) is in charge of directing this new season at CloverWorks studios, replacing A-1 Pictures studios.
Hiroyuki Yoshino (Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch, Guilty Crown, Magi: The labyrinth of magic) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
Yumi Shimizu (Horimiya, Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!, Futsuu no Joshikousei ga [Locodol] Yatte Mita.) is in charge of character design and animation direction.
Ryo Kawasaki (Fumetsu no Anata e, Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia, Romantic Killer) is in charge of composing the soundtrack.

Synopsis of Black Butler

The young Ciel Phantomhive is known as the "Queen's Watchdog" as he takes care of the many disturbing events that occur during Victorian England for Her Majesty. With the help of Sebastian Michaelis, his loyal butler with seemingly inhumane abilities, Ciel uses any means necessary to get the job done. But is there more to this butler dressed in black than meets the eye?

In Ciel's past lies a tragedy that shrouded him in perennial darkness: during one of his darkest moments, he formed a contract with Sebastian, a demon, trading his soul in exchange for revenge on those who threatened him. Now, Sebastian is not only a great butler, but he is also the perfect servant to carry out his master's orders, while patiently waiting for the delicious food that he will eventually prepare with Ciel's soul.
